Show Transcript
all right so with that let me go ahead and introduce a key people in our school are you all know Miss Ramirez she is our coordinator and is in charge of many of the programs in our school and we have Miss Lee this is her first year at El Serrano and she's overseeing our Intervention Program and a lot of assessment that is happening in our school and this beard LAUSD have app all school to use this product Ivory it is an assessment product and what that means is that if how to help us know how our children of learning toward the great level standards were going with Lee will talk to you about what I ready is she will also let you know that if you're in Twisted you can also get your students your child report individual report because the question that many parents ask is my child doing my child learning and be where he or she supposed to be these are very good question so without further Ado I'm going to turn it over to mislead so that you can walk away understanding what is ready and how it can help you know what your child is doing thank you for the introduction as miss us to the bus for mention I am and I'm the intervention coordinator here at El Sorrento Elementary I'm going to go ahead and share my screen right away that you can see what we are going to be looking at it will be a brief overview of what I ready is as well as how you might be able to read your students report in terms of what their diagnostic results were before I begin may I ask if there are any parents we need Spanish translation just a quick check-in since we have some new members joining us. I don't see any hands raised so I will continue so welcome I will provide a sign out Link at the end so that you can include your information we know who's joined us and if you wanted that printout of the student of your students in terms of their results as a quick check-in we wanted to see how you are all feeling today it's just a quick way to kind of check how we're doing you know it's a kind of calm any nerves that might be there there's a lot going on that you handle as parents on a day-to-day hourly basis so just a quick answer in the chat you can go ahead and just type in your number 1 2 3 through 10 what are you feeling today just to let us know it gives us an idea of how you are all doing is pf3 what's a good 10 we have some happy Parents in here at 3 and 10 yay that's good to know it just eat some fives okay thank you got a 7mm very very even-keeled parents in here thank you all for Sherry so this is something that we do in general with their students with their staff as well to check-in you know we talked about social emotional learning. It's it's a valid for us as well teachers as adults as parents so I hope I'm glad to see that we're all doing well thank you so what is i-Ready you may have been hearing this term the sprays used around your kids have been talking about it maybe or your teachers a brief overview of what I ready is is that it's an online learning program focused on reading and not all l e y DT through 12 students are taking these i-Ready assessment at school three times a year so our students have already taken at the beginning of the year and the fall they took it in the middle of the year right before winter break and then they're going to take it one more time at the end of the year in May perhaps our April and May before we are out so as we are our students are taking these Diagnostics we will be able to see any growth that is been happening throughout these three times and something to note is that these i-Ready assessments are comprehensive meaning it's testing our students on grade level standard for the whole grade level that year so what students should know at the end of the grade basically the beginning of the year test and the end of the year test are asking our testing events on the steam standard so at the beginning of the year you may see that your students may not have done as well as you'd hoped for but that's okay because at the end of the year by the end that our students should have the learning and has been gaining knowledge throughout the grade to be able to to know those standards by the end are there any questions again you can put them in the chat anything that needs to be clean if I do that we can go over those questions that you may have still for more information about what I ready is it General this is a link that you can go to its buy ready.com last family Center and I will stick that in the chat just for you to quickly have access to as well moving on we want to share with you some of are school-wide Matthews dolls for El Sorrento Elementary School for Math all students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade take the i-Ready math Diagnostics and as mentioned that's three times a year so they took it in the beginning of the year what you'll see is something called boy right here beginning of year then you're going to see the more which is Middle will appear so at the very beginning of the year across the school in grades K through 6 this is how our students did in general we had about 6% of our students into through 6 who were meeting grade level standard at early middle or above we had about 53% of our student who were one grade level below and then down here we had about 20 7% who were three or more grade levels below what you'll notice is once we get to that got to the middle of the year when our students to get wet right before winter break. The band in green whether it was early middle or above has increased and that should happen since at the middle of the year they've now learned more they've gained more grade level understanding of the staff and so that band has increased our middle one grade level below bad while it's still stayed the same at 53% we can actually make the assumption that those students two were here in the beginning of the year in the red some of them have actually moved into the yellow now that we're in the middle of the year because our read in this middle of the Year band has decreased significant down here for the middle of the year so as a again this is over all K through 6 no you'll see that below we have something called placement by domain and that means that these are specific to not standards that you'll see it in California Common Core State Standards these are some of these domains may sound familiar because they also appear on your students report card now a quick note and clarification your students report grade report card grades are not based on these i-Ready score these i-Ready scores are just showing us where your student where your child might have or might be in terms of their understanding of the grade-level I hope that clarifies. again the i-Ready results diagnostic results are not your students grades they are just a reflection of where your student might be in terms of be specific. in math go again the band at the bottom was our beginning of year for the school and then at the middle of the year are the top darker bands and this is you'll see that there has definitely been Improvement in the middle of the year because by now or students have learned more or their grade level understanding I don't see any questions in the chat still going to move on I'm going to now show you are reading results for i-Ready overall at the school now for reading I ready is only required of grades three through six so these scores are not going to reflect Kinder first or second very much some possibly may have taken them but overall these are our third through sixth grade classes so again we're looking at our end of the year we see that about 20% of her students at the beginning of the year or early or mid above-grade-level 31% were considered one grade level below and then down here about 50% were either to three or more grade levels below once we get to the middle of the year now now that a few months have passed they took it right before winter break there has been an increase so we've got now 29% of our students are early mid or great above-grade-level are yellows are 36% and well that didn't freeze in the yellow band we can still assume we can see that are red has decreased so the red kids here at the beginning of the year have jumped and moved into the yellow band in the middle as well as into the green now for reading we have a lot more do me and that is because it will it's a different set of Standards going reading we see that we have phonological awareness phonics high frequency words vocabulary and comprehension is broken apart into both literature and informational so you're going to see still got that these bands are showing an increase I'm the beginning of the year at the bottom shaded likely to the middle of the year it is at the top so this is good news because that shows us that our students are learning and our knowledge and in their understanding of their grade level standard now what we're showing you again is an overall overall view so on your personal student report you will not see this this is something that you're able to show you school-wide however if you have received your child specific diagnostic report this might be something you see on there do this gives you a snapshot a quick view of your child performance and so you're going to see if your child has been here since the beginning of the year they have taken that I ready diagnostic at the beginning in August or early and then a second test sometime in November December before winter break so we're seeing here that this particular student at the beginning of the year well what the student play spin the needs Improvement range about 3-4 months later this child has shown great Improvement because he or she has gained 24 points and hasn't shown understanding and growth so now we're seeing that this child is approaching grade level standards approaching grade three standards what y'all noticed here is that there is a green section or green bad and this is telling us that this is what considered on grade level for your child great so the points are going to be different depending on what grade your child is it for this grade on grade level means 449 to 500 16 we can see that while this child is not yet in that green shaded area or on grade level he or she is approaching so he's here she is on his or her way to coaching at grade level which means that perhaps by the end of the year he or she is this child continues to grow at this rate may be able to reach that green bad so you're seeing here up write down based on the beginning of year what the test scores showed overall as well as by each domain and then at the middle of the year what we're showing is is much now something to note again is that beginning of the year and middle of the year are students have not learned all of the standard for that grade level so perhaps here in Geometry which is common across all grade levels it'll say needs Improvement and that's because geometry tend to be something that you didn't learn towards the end of the school year go by the end of this school year there will be a third column for that third test perhaps it'll show approaching grade level or on grade level excetera so so far this is kind of the big chunk of what we're trying to show today and since we have a fairly small group if you do have any questions cuz I don't see any in the chat please feel free to admit yourself or to type in the so that we can clarify anything yeah I have a question you mentioned this report not being paid through second not being reflected but do they take this ready assessment so chase their second does not have to take is not required to take the reading already but they are required to take the mat so your teacher may or may not have your child be given the class the reading assessment if they are in case through 2 did not clarify all teeth are not required to take the I'm not required to take that you're not required to take the English but they do take the mass is that what I understood for K through 2 Brooke eight through 3 through 63 through six is required to take both reading and math and I got a question and then the teacher might have had the class to take the i-Ready English is that correct yes so that's something you'll want to check with your teacher to ask in case through to instead of the i-Ready reading a through 2 is required to a different assessment called The Devils and that's something that students have been using and teachers of the district has been using for many years so that's more of a early foundational reading skills assessment so that hoping you can ask your teachers about as well for K through 2 r e b e l a are there any other questions okay so I wanted to add parents because one of the biggest question we get all the time is how's my child doing what can I do to help my child home so I ready is one of the tools it measured at one point in time so if your child happened to be tired or sleepy on that particular day when they took the boy test the market at the middle of the year it may affect their performance and so what we're doing as a school we using the tools to gauge where our children are but it's not going to be the only things that we using 2 gauge a student's learning and for that reason I want to you to engage in a conversation with your teacher said you can be you can have a better understanding of where your child is i-Ready is a great starting point for you as a as a parent to know well what area in math are my children expected to know okay so now we know number operations and algebraic thinking and Etc and how's my child doing in each of those areas this can begin a wonderful conversation with your teachers if you see that your child may be in the needs Improvement to ask question or look at the homework that the child bring home so that you can get a better sense if my child is struggling with this concept and what I can do please know that by being here today you will be getting your child information personal report will put it in an envelope and will have your child take it home this week so that you can actually look at it and see how your child is doing before we end I did want to share one more resource with us with parents on families that is available to any and all students because there's a lot of questions okay well how can we help our state in terms of their learning and understanding you know we don't always have access to someone to help their district is providing something called On Demand homework help through a company called paper.co and all of our students can access this support 24/7 through their schoology account so our kids all know how to go on to schoology and when they go on to schoology on the left side there is a section and you can scroll and find paper.co and you would be able to get access to on-demand homework help if you need more information as to how to get to that you can access that through the district's website here at the bottom and I will share these this link in the chat as well as just a quick sign out as well you can use this bitly link and on your phone anything because if you'd like to have that report of your i-Ready student i-Ready account this is where you'll be able to put in your information so that we can send that home with your child if there are no other questions I'm going to I'm going to quickly stop
